Mourning for Prof. Bernhard Böhm

Bernhard Böhm was Professor of Historic Woodwind Instruments at the University of Music Würzburg from 1979 to 2011. He was highly committed to the interests of the Department of Historical Instruments and organized the Days of Early Music concert series for several years. He also represented the interests of early music outside the University of Music in his capacity as chairman of the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Alte Musik in Bayern e.V. (Bavarian Early Music Association).

As an artist, Bernhard Böhm was one of the most versatile performers for the recorder and was considered a specialist for various historical baroque and renaissance transverse flute types. In addition to flute instruments, he was proficient on a variety of other historical woodwind instruments, such as bagpipes, rauschpfeife and shawm. He had an outstanding stylistic range from the Middle Ages to the Baroque and performed as a soloist as well as in various chamber music ensembles. For example, he was a member of the Ulsamer-Collegium and the wind ensemble

Il Curioso, which he directed. His extensive concert activities have taken him to Japan, South America and North America as well as numerous European countries.

Everyone who knew Bernhard Böhm remembers an outstanding musician and passionate advocate of early music, who treated his fellow human beings with great human sensitivity.

We will keep Bernhard Böhm in honorable memory.
